360° VR Underwater Hong Kong
Funded by the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (TDLEG) for the 2019-22 Triennium of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), supported by Reef Check Foundation Hong Kong.
In this exercise, you will have a chance to experience a fully immersive virtual reality and dive into our precious Hong Kong coral communities. The basic concept of scientific underwater surveys will also be introduced to let you learn more about marine ecological monitoring.
This project aims to:
-
Enhance students’ awareness and knowledge of corals and coral communities in Hong Kong and deepens students’ reflection on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 14 “Life below Water” and SDG 13 “Climate action”; and to
-
Promote students’ pro-environmental attitudes and behaviors to protect the marine environment.
A user manual, demonstration videos, and four underwater 360o Virtual Reality (VR) videos have been developed to create a virtual diving and underwater survey experience for students. The learning package has been adopted in course teaching at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and local secondary schools.
